Yes, we can recognise text on your products and packages. If you have a variety of items with text printed on them it may make sense for you to opt-in for a combination of image search and text recognition.
For most cases, we use a technique called Optical Character Recognition (OCR) where we detect and convert letters into searchable data. We then check for matches with the product data you provided and find the most relevant products.
For some logos OCR doesn't work as the characters in that logo cannot be read by machines anymore. Remember that iconic logo from one of the biggest beverage companies in the world that's famous for their sodas? Yes, OCR will not yield too good results with that one but image similarity search will just work fine in these cases.
