What was the challenge?
Some customers, especially ‘digital natives’, are not familiar with technical terms or product names from the KIPP range (e.g. ‘locking bolt’ or ‘spring plunger’) or relevant product attributes can only be expressed with difficulty in words. With more than 75,000 different items in the KIPP range, it can be very challenging for customers at home and abroad to find the items they want in the electronic KIPP catalogue, which is embedded on all websites, using only a text-based search function. Furthermore, even knowledgeable employees from their own or the incoming goods department sometimes encounter challenges in identifying items when the information on delivery notes is unclear, and they have to do extensive follow-up research.

How did we solve it?
To address the described challenges and provide real added value in product search and identification for both customers and employees, the nyris image search was implemented as a feature on the KIPP websites. By indexing all products and enabling a powerful search, it is now possible to search for and find products based on an image template, making identification more convenient and faster. The image search provides significant added value in product searches, particularly when technical terms are unknown or product characteristics are difficult to describe. Not only customers but also the staff in the incoming goods department benefit from a significant reduction in workload.
